The gym teacher suggested to them that perhaps more calories were needed, that maybe their bodies had gone into "starvation mode". So they had both been very persistent with eating large quantities of highly calorific foods in an attempt to lose weight. When the gym teacher walks in for another consultation they are met with them both holding donuts.
