Remove Introduce Yourself & re-org member threads

Recommended Posts

I’ve found that Introduce Yourself as a stand-alone location seems to misdirect both potential free and pay content creators into starting out there when they would probably be better off starting in the member pics/vids threads, where they would get more foot traffic and attention to their threads, which might reduce their attrition rates due to lack of interest in these threads.

I find it a regular occurrence now that the newer content creators are ‘found’ by chance on the status updates landing page than anywhere else and when I look at their profiles many seem to either only post solely there (which is luck of the draw with the amount of traffic/posting whether anything actually gets seen by us members) or in Introduce Yourself section where no one really looks. I’m quite often now finding models who have been active for months that I’ve never actually seen before and I suspect this is the case for a lot of us.

My suggestion would be:

  • Remove ‘Introduce Yourself’ entirely to avoid misdirecting users to a low traffic, low attention part of the forum.
  • Merge Your Pictures/Videos and Women of Curvage into a single ‘Members of Curvage’ thread for non-PPV related posting, with tags used to identify gender identity (so members can follow their preferences without segregating any one gender identity/ies), this also removes the lack of standardisation of having a ‘Your Pictures’ section and ‘Women’s Pictures’ section. This could a members-only viewable section to better ensure the privacy of members who are not looking to model for PPV content etc. on public searches.
  • Create a new section called ‘Content Creators/Models of Curvage’ or similar, that PPV content creators (such as curvage models) can post in that allows people who are interested in Curvage PPV creators to easily find new/existing creators. This could be publicly viewable to help draw potential customers to the site and new models should get directed to set up a thread in here (or move a members thread over if they decide to go PPV further down the line) so they can be found and build out their followings.

This should remove the ambiguity for most new joiners on where to start, reduce the number of general member sections to one from three to provide more focus, provide more standardisation to the members section (and it’s naming conventions) and make it far easier for content creators to be ‘found’ and interact with other members by giving them an independent section.

I mean honestly this post just shows how much of the culture of Curvage has changed since this site was created with it being predominantly fetish enthusiasts where the "introduce yourself" section was great for new people joining the community. Now there's no community to be introduced to, and the fairer sex joining is assumed to be content creators or content creators in the making. Back ten years ago there wasn't an automatic assumption that every amateur posting their pictures and stories would professionalized.

I can't even complain that this is a change that is disliked since at this point you do see occasionally people who join that don't have any outwardly articulated desire to be content creators that have people hanging out in their replies asking when they are going to become a model/content creator and asking them to sell stuff. Of course to a degree models have always been members but I think many people here can recall the days when even a majority of new female members weren't content creators or didn't think of becoming one for several months after joining the community.

Really just shows the shift on the internet from being a collection of disparate online communities to a collection of five social media data harvesting operations and money making ventures. I suppose here's the point where you'd expect me to complain about it and I would for the rest of the internet but not here honestly since for the most part while some of the charm of curvage has left this website it does generally treat woman better than it used to and a contributing factor to that is more extensive moderation which I presume is supported by the larger budget of the website.

I do miss my old curvage out of nostalgia but I can't say that it was without blemishes or was even a net better place than our current curvage is now. I wouldn't be happy to see the suggestions of the original poster implemented since it'd basically be throwing out the remainder of the framework of the website that isn't predicated on the commodification of this kink but I can't say that I won't expect them to be implemented.

We can't and shouldn't go back to the old curvage but I'd like to at least keep the basic framework of the website together so it could hypothetically facilitate communication that isn't entirely based on a consumer/content creator basis. If we are going to remove a part of old curvage we should get rid of that candid sub-forum which has always been a haven for the creepiest activity on this site.

I’ve been kicking around here since before fatcelebs was a site of it’s own. I would argue that Introduce Yourself as a concept and section never has or will be a particularly popular or well defined area. The non-kink community of fatcelebs/curvage1&2 was never found in that kind of thing, it was in the other chat/discussion areas, like hobbies/chit chat/serious discussion etc, which are much better ways of introducing yourself on here outside of the fetish orientation, since you can dive right into topics of interest, rather than the topic being ‘hi I exist’ in effect, which if you aren’t posting pics pretty much always die a quick death in terms of interaction.

My suggestion is built upon the fact that Introduce Yourself, Your Pictures and Women of Curvage are primarily where content creators will end up, which as you say is due to the nature of how commercialised much of the fetish has become and how most of the mains sites have gone over time. But it’d make it much easier to find what you’re looking for. In terms of your comments on community, it would also from a community perspective help delineate fetish content from non-fetish content, since the main other ‘member area’ would be the discussion topic forums. You aren’t likely to find those non-kink discussions in the pictures/videos/Intro threads regardless because they often go off topic fast and just get abyssed/deleted. This way people who want to post and/or consume content can very quickly and easily do that (let’s be honest, the overwhelming majority who come here) and people who’d want to engage in off-topic/non-fetish discussion can easily find a section for that too.

A brief addendum, but to consolidate the community aspects of the site…

  • It would make sense to shift links into the same section as general pictures/videos/fat celebs since that’s more a fetish sub-section.
  • You could shift Hobbies into the general section where chit chat, serious discussion, recipes etc currently are and rename that Curvage Community.
  • Move Abyss to the admin section since it feels it should be around here than in the ‘site proper’

No idea what to do with the dating sub-section though. Tbh a quick look shows it’s a lot of guys with no replies and a handful of women with a few, the question is whether it’s really worth it on here. I get not wanting Curvage to devolve into being just a storefront, but given the high member count on the site by comparison to the tiny footprint of it and the likely abysmal outcomes for what the dating section is for, my question would be does that really add any value to the site?

Dating is interesting, because when this site started, there wasn't exactly anywhere else to go to for that other than ff and let's just say that site had its fair share of problems. That's changed somewhat since but newer alternatives also have problems such that even if it isn't actively used, it does mean that if a certain site burnt to the ground then there's somewhere for those interested in it to go.

I don't personally use the dating section for dating, but I do like the features of the site geared towards it in the member list. I would personally find a groups system more functional because unlike the USA and its relatively high density of site members, the rest of the world tends to be more spread out. Rather than have various harder-to-find threads for x country or city, having geographical 'groups' acting as a sort of subforum would hopefully drive more activity. As great as it is to be communicating with people on the other side of the world, there's always an urge to tell the sheilas and blokes to hop on ozbargain for discount tinnies and snags, or grab an esky of stubbies for a piss up at the servo no I will not elaborate.
