It was a decent combination of prosthetics, January's own pregnancy weight and the use of a plus sized body double for a couple of bare shots. I'm not familiar with the show other than the wg parts but I thought Elizabeth Moss's character, Peggys gradual weight gain (using prosthetics) was much better.

Does anyone have the name of the actress body double for her?

I'll just leave this here...

Nothing much cruel but observing yourself transforming rapidly into the very thing you fear the most (that, younger women and people of color, lest from the character's morally dissonant views) .

For those who are not familiar with the first five seasons of Mad Men, January's personae Betty Draper used to be overweight during her youth. As she blossomed into womanhood she  compulsively managed to restrict her daily caloric intake, remains fairly active even as a middle-upper class housewife, even going as far as sizeshaming every once-and-again her child daughter for being a little plumper than average as a catalyst for her on-going frustration-- socially-spurred frustrations at the turn of the Sexual Revolution and advent of the Civil Right Movement era been one of the central subthemes of this show, obviously.

However, as the show is passing by, we can see the more she grow vexed by her marriage, living conditions and social status as the seemingly "ideal (white) all-American housewife" , the greater her sweet tooth and repressed gluttonous eating habits creeping. The emotional turmoil bred from her divorce, mutual cheating issues and changing livelihood led her overarching story arc to plummet into a retaliative climax. Karma, a much bigger b***h she was, struck her down and now she's living in better psychological comfort with her mew husband, she letted her guard down, overate her still-unresolved angst and even developped a hypothyroidical tumor: the combination of those resulted in her going several dress sizes up from the once-lithe dreambody she so laboriously managed to keep up to being nearly 100lbs overweight and still creeping up.
