Obviously she is even more beautiful but how does this even happen? The hormone fluctuations leading to perimenopause in their 30's is when most "hit the wall" and really start to pack on the pounds. But even leading up to that: multiple pregnancies, the common binge eating each month caused by their menstrual cycle and common meds like birth control all take their toll. They also are smaller and have less muscle than men which means women's BMR's are naturally much lower, burning less calories per day than men. As the lucky fiancé of a girl who was a 110 lbs. cross country star when I met her, and is now a 145+ lbs. couch potato with a beer belly, I'd say it was a three-part combination of giving up sports (which quickly turned into giving up exercise altogether, since the two are linked) unsupervised diet ("hey, let's have mac & cheese for dinner! and then make brownies for dessert!") and drinking (sometimes until passing out on the couch... see below) I have the immense fortune of watching this unfold first-hand without even really trying, and lord knows she's not the only one in her class that went this route.
