Your question is simply excellent! Perhaps there is a biochemical explanation that is little known until now: xenoestrogens in drinking water. These substances may cause a serious hormonal imbalance in women and one of the symptoms is considerable weight gain. This is my hypothesis that should be tested, of course. Further studies are necessary.

You are 100% right, but, on top of that, there is also the serious problem with xenoestrogens, which are endocrine disrupting chemicals that are making girls and women fatter in our generation. Please take a look at the table below:
