Right Wing Americans...

The choice isn't between babies dying in the womb or in dustbins, at least not in most communities today. You can tke a newborn infant and drop it off at a firehouse or hospital, no questions asked.  Infanticide is simply not needed - although it refreshing to note that we at least agree that is what abortion is..

No, we don't.

They can choose to use protection, refrain from intercourse, welcome the child and raise it, pt it up for adoption or turn it over to the authorities.

Yes, and the choice for abortion too. It's not because it exists that it's a happy solution. It's better if people are educated aboutall that, critical then. But if it happens, it should be allowed (within specific limits, just as it is now).

And they should in my view also have the choice of forcing thefather to financisally contribute to such a choice - and the fathers should have the right to choose to raise the child if the mother doesn't want it.

+1 but no forcing anything, either he helps and see the child or don't and exits his/her life forever.

As for rapists, and we're talking real rape, not just the statutory kind thsat's consensual sex but illegal because of age, victims should have the right to prescribe the punishment - including castration or death.

Now, that is silly.

You do realize that the entire fucking purpose of having a legal system (and indeed a Leviathan) is to remove the element of self-serving bias that turns justice into retribution, right?

The right wing is where you find the folks who are pro-life, anti universal healthcare, anti gay marriage,  pro teaching creationism alongside evolution, pro oil/natural gas (as opposed to renewables).  Coincidence?  Not so much.

That being said, the Republican party of the past (Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Lincoln, etc) wasn't the narrow minded religious shitshow that it is now.  That's actually what prompted me to start this thread.  There are intelligent Republicans out there, and I wonder what they think about the fact that their party has been overtaken by the things mentioned in the first paragraph.  I'm actually a fan of smaller government, but voting Republican is not even open for discussion given all the trappings that come with taking that stance.

I've noticed that generally conservative republicans normally take one radically left wing position (by that  mean occasionally left of me which is generally rare in this country). For example one of my republican neighbors is Uber environmentalist (no drilling, no non-renewable sources, no economic activity EVAR!!1!) but still insists that the poor are responsible for their lot, which as a person whose studied philosophy I find ridiculous because there's no such thing as free-will. Another republican friend of mine is dating a member of an ethic minority and he's a fucking black panther. My cousin is the same way about LGBT folks once she discovered her sister is bi and a cross dresser. Heck, even my republican mother was the head of her local union and she taught me to sing the Ballad of Joe Hill. It seems they are perfectly willing to apply their right-wing ideology to their view of the world until it affects them.

Women should have choices, just not the choice of mudering a fetus.  They can choose to use protection, refrain from intercourse, welcome the child and raise it, pt it up for adoption or turn it over to the authorities. so you believe if a woman is raped and becomes pregnant that the government should force her to conceive?

what about the morning after pill? is that murder too?

Not to nitpick a small side point of your post, but renewable energy generates quite a bit of economic activity so I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Thank you for the link hal. That was an interesting read. Yes, this program has been around for awhile. It might be a bullshit program but it's true that Obama is not to blame for this one.

yup. I agree that its a bullshit program.

But the only real story here is the lengths the right wing will go to lie about Obama.

The Federal Reserve is the problem. This country is more of an Oligarch, think of The Fed, Wall St, Hollywood, folks like Kissinger, Rockefeller, and Soros. Its all part of that 'One World Order' shit they believe in along with the UN. Democrat VS Republican politics on a National level is like entertainment/ Pro Wrestling said Jesse Ventura and he was both a wrestler and governor. Sooner or later the dollar will be worthless and your neighbors may be trying to eat you. No joke people lose their humanity after they miss 15 consecutive meals, its proven. When the thin facade of credit, fiat currency, and centralized govt crumbles it will be most unpleasant. Hopefully it doesn't happen but a failure to plan is a plan to failure. My 2 cents.

Unlike most people I'm pretty open minded to conspiracy theorist since they generally rely on factual information rather then political spin, but the massive flaw in this sort of thinking is what if there is a conspiracy? Sure you can go on about the evils of the New World Order, but what the hell are you going to do about it? And more importantly, once you abolish it, what on earth are you going to replace it with? How are you going to prevent another New World Order from arising again. The fatal flaw in your line if reasoning is that you fail to place ruling class manipulation in the greater context of history and you simply go for a "great man theory" that requires you to re-invent the wheel to discover how the New World Order some how is responsible for everything in history when in fact the so-called New World Order is simply the inevitable result of our socio-economic system. To quote Marx in the Communist Manifestio

"The bourgeoisie cannot exist without constantly revolutionising the instruments of production, and thereby the relations of production, and with them the whole relations of society. Conservation of the old modes of production in unaltered form, was, on the contrary, the first condition of existence for all earlier industrial classes. Constant revolutionising of production, uninterrupted disturbance of all social conditions, everlasting uncertainty and agitation distinguish the bourgeois epoch from all earlier ones. All fixed, fast-frozen relations, with their train of ancient and venerable prejudices and opinions, are swept away, all new-formed ones become antiquated before they can ossify. All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses his real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind.

The need of a constantly expanding market for its products chases the bourgeoisie over the entire surface of the globe. It must nestle everywhere, settle everywhere, establish connexions everywhere.

The bourgeoisie has through its exploitation of the world market given a cosmopolitan character to production and consumption in every country. To the great chagrin of Reactionists, it has drawn from under the feet of industry the national ground on which it stood. All old-established national industries have been destroyed or are daily being destroyed. They are dislodged by new industries, whose introduction becomes a life and death question for all civilised nations, by industries that no longer work up indigenous raw material, but raw material drawn from the remotest zones; industries whose products are consumed, not only at home, but in every quarter of the globe. In place of the old wants, satisfied by the production of the country, we find new wants, requiring for their satisfaction the products of distant lands and climes. In place of the old local and national seclusion and self-sufficiency, we have intercourse in every direction, universal inter-dependence of nations. And as in material, so also in intellectual production. The intellectual creations of individual nations become common property. National one-sidedness and narrow-mindedness become more and more impossible, and from the numerous national and local literatures, there arises a world literature.

The bourgeoisie, by the rapid improvement of all instruments of production, by the immensely facilitated means of communication, draws all, even the most barbarian, nations into civilisation. The cheap prices of commodities are the heavy artillery with which it batters down all Chinese walls, with which it forces the barbarians’ intensely obstinate hatred of foreigners to capitulate. It compels all nations, on pain of extinction, to adopt the bourgeois mode of production; it compels them to introduce what it calls civilisation into their midst, i.e., to become bourgeois themselves. In one word, it creates a world after its own image.

The bourgeoisie has subjected the country to the rule of the towns. It has created enormous cities, has greatly increased the urban population as compared with the rural, and has thus rescued a considerable part of the population from the idiocy of rural life. Just as it has made the country dependent on the towns, so it has made barbarian and semi-barbarian countries dependent on the civilised ones, nations of peasants on nations of bourgeois, the East on the West.

The bourgeoisie keeps more and more doing away with the scattered state of the population, of the means of production, and of property. It has agglomerated population, centralised the means of production, and has concentrated property in a few hands. The necessary consequence of this was political centralisation. Independent, or but loosely connected provinces, with separate interests, laws, governments, and systems of taxation, became lumped together into one nation, with one government, one code of laws, one national class-interest, one frontier, and one customs-tariff."

And note that Marx was able to predict this in 1848, not by doing hours of strenuous research trying to figure out how blame the Rothschilds for the French Revolution, but by simply having a solid understanding of the way economics interacts with our development as a civilization.

Well I would more correctly say they are exploiting this. I mean, they didn't really "lie" per se. I don't think they paid this idiot to run her mouth about "Obama phones".  I do think they are exploiting the video and misconstruing it such that people think that Obama started a free phone program. Which is also wrong and perhaps tantamount to lying but not actually telling lies. This kind of crap is normal though for both sides of the isle.

However the video does paint a picture of the grim reality in this country. It puts a face on a concept and gives a window into the mentality of how some people in this country think. Most people don't have this person's view of the world which is why this is so disturbing. I don't think it should be used as political propaganda but certainly Obama supports entitlement like programs that are inline with this to some degree. I think it's more important to consider how we feel about that way of thinking (agree or disagree) than to get lost in who's to blame for what.

I would say that Obama's support for this program is no different than Bush's support for it or Clinton's support for it.  Clinton and Bush actually expanded it. I guess it's more accurate to say that the congress during Clinton and Bush expanded it. Also, the metric to see who qualifies for welfare benefits has not changed under Obama. It's just that more people are on benefits because they now qualify because of the recession.

i think in every society there is the question of what to do about people that are like parasites on the system.  I was in Scotland recently and around the corner from where i was staying there was a chemist shop where junkies would line up for free methadone provided for by the government. Many if not all of these people were also on other government benefits and i doubt many worked at all. They just sucked off the system and the working public paid for it.

I was surprised that people i talked were not against this kind of welfare system. My friend's Dad, who is a pretty conservative fella, broke it down like this. He said that there are a % of people in the country that won't work, are on drugs etc. If you do nothing then they will cause a lot of social problems. They will still need to get money to support their drug habit and to live so they will steal, rob and maybe even murder for it. In the end society will have to pay for all that extra havoc. Or society can try to prevent more social problems through welfare and benefits, drug treatment like methadone etc. He said that no matter what you do you won't prevent the fact that society is going to have a relatively small % of parasites. These people are never going to all of a sudden become productive citizens. So the goal is to prevent them from doing anymore damage than they already do.

In the US we have the same problem but we kind of half ass it. This women in the video didn't become ignorant yesterday. She probably went to a school in a ghetto where getting home safely was a priority over learning anything. She probably came from a broken home or lived in a housing project where the culture of entitlement was the norm. She probably lived in a neighborhood where random violence was the norm.  Yeah, not everyone who grows up in a ghetto comes out like this, but we shouldn't be surprised when a % of people do. I'm not saying we should give these people phones. I think it's BS. I'm just saying the way we structure society creates this mindset and this kind of person that is too ignorant to realize how ignorant she is.

You forgot the influence of television and other media. It keeps children from learning and adults from thinking.

The same applies to the internet. ;) People in Europe an Northern America  spend nearly 10 hours a day on social and other media.

it depends what you watch. If you're watching the history channel or something else educational that's entirely different than watching some silly reality show.

It probably won't hurt if you watch it an hour per day. According to more recent historic events the network might have it's own agenda and it's most likely used for propaganda, though. Children however should only have limited access to media (if at all). No because of the bullshit they get fed with but because of the waste of time that is needed otherwise in adolescence.

Retweet if you like this! #TwitterMakesMeFeelMoreImportantThanIReallyAm

Also Facebook like this! Your life is empty and incomplete unless you let all of your "friends" know how you feel about Romney's Big Bird comment!

Even better! Take a screenshot of said tweet or FB post, upload the image to Imgur and then post it on Reddit so you can get all that karma that serves no purpose!

Sorry, I'll go back to my rock that I'm living under.

There are actually people who take part in telephone polls with three answer options: "yes", "no", "I don't care". They might not care about the topic of the survey but they still want to be perceived with their tiny little expression of opinion. Thanks to the internet it's never been easier.
